The impact of open source projects and standards activities on repository access already has been extensive. To be sure, much work remains to be done, and the consolidation of practice has only begun. However, this conference is taking place in 2008, not 1997 or 2004. Impact from development projects and standards activities that we can see today is yesterday’s news. So let us zoom out from the street level view of current products and practice to assess the direction of travel of the industry. A second wave is bringing even more, and probably more disruptive, change than the increased efficiency and switch to online digital content that the first wave wrought. This poster will focus on three projects; The California State University Digital Marketplace, the Visual Understanding Environment (VUE), and Pachyderm, each of which show user-facing applications that include a federated search of content from commercial publishers, libraries, and open educational resources, all reused and enabled by use of an open educational standard, the O.K.I. Repository OSID.
