Abstract

To date, much work on interoperability in the digital library and digital repository communities has been focused on discovery rather than use of digital objects. In the work described in this poster proposal, we seek to address some of the technical underpinnings of how digital objects discovered by a student or scholar can then be used and reused for teaching, learning, and research in a variety of different tools and applications. Specifically, we discuss the Asset Actions technology that has emerged from the Digital Library Federation's Aquifer project as a means of exposing the behaviors of objects in digital repositories in a repository-agnostic, easy to implement manner. The basic technology is described, and planned future activities are discussed, including exploring the expression of Asset Actions through the emerging Open Archives Initiative Object Reuse and Exchange (OAI-ORE) technology.
