The session's main purpose was to introduce the available analytical packages for measuring the use of repositories. The introduction (Alma Swan) set repositories in the context of the institutional mission to disseminate research and, in the age of strong competition between universities for impact, image, staff and students, how an open access research repository can be central to helping to further that mission. Demonstrations were given of Awstats (Adam Field), Google Analytics (Tim Miles-Board) and IRStats (Tim Brody). The demonstrations showed how each package measures usage of repository content and the display options that are available. Tim Brody also outlined how Citebase, a tool that measures citations, can work alongside usage statistics packages to provide an overall view of how an institution's outputs impacting on the wider research community.
